Once Walmart opened everyone found out about this hidden gem. Two nice basketball and tennis courts. Playground for the kids and a large gazebo with tables and BBQ grills near by. There is a water feature but, it is not operating at this time. Two dog parks in the back of the park. One for small dogs and one for dogs over 20 pounds. The last few years park upkeep is wanting and dog bag stations have decreased to maybe 3? Most of the time they are empty. Also have experienced more untrained dogs and inept owners unwilling to follow park rules that are posted on fence outside of dog park in resent years. My dog was attacked by two boxers here, who’s owners were clueless on training or restraining. Called Stockton PD who claimed to not be familiar with rules regarding dog parks. Less enjoyable when it’s overcrowded.By Kent T Horner (5 months ago)I have been to parks in tracy, Stockton and Lodi and there are no dog parks around the tri-valley that can compete with this gem in such a dismal place like stockton that it was extremely surprising! The whole park is set up to cater to furry friends with a big dog section and small dog section along with a agility course that is to die for. The gates close well so no little pup can escape which is reassuring. The small dog section has plenty of grass and is adequate for their little size and there are benches in 3 different areas for owners to sit and enjoy the day. There are poop bags provided but there are owners that do not pick up after their dogs and that’s so disgusting and disappointing because they have no idea how much of a gem this park is is! So be careful if you step in the grass area. I noticed a water fountain area but I did not use it since I had read a review stating that it didn’t work so I didn’t risk it and I brought in my water bottle. There are signs that say no leashes on dogs but I have seen owners have their dogs leashed because of their aggressiveness. There are also signs stating no outside food but people will bring their food anyway, it didn’t bother me. The cutest artwork can be found in the small section with endearing quotes on dogs, love and friendship that will remind you that dogs are just too precious for us. The people here are friendly and will maybe strike up a conversation with you so I found that really nice of them. The agility course is so great and it allows for big AND small dogs to go in and use it. There are 2 benches there to allow owners to sit and take some shade. The only annoying part I found was that there are people who go in this section and stand around hogging the equipment or sitting on it even though their dogs have no interest in using it and there are benches for them available to use. The big dog section has ample space for their big dog needs so it looks a bit bigger than the small dog section. I noticed it has a picnic table and its next to the agility course providing enough distance between small dogs and big dogs which was pretty cool although I did see a small chihuahua barking nonstop all the way from their mini section.By TONI M. Quiet, an Oasis in the City. I beautiful and safe park to walk your dogs, bring your kids and eat lunch at the many picnic tables. Great views of the Lake.
It’s fine. If it was well maintained and garbage-free it would still probably only be four stars.
A lot of the seating and grilling locations are pretty nasty. Lots of debris everywhere from the trees.
Very few amenities aside from grass and some places to sit.
Some nice wildlife though. Lots of birds and squirrels in the trees. Butterflies all over the place. Ducks on the lake.
There’s nothing particularly wrong with it but there’s nothing particularly right with it either.
Nice and quiet park to come out and enjoy the water and ducks. The water is called the Smith canal which is a canal connected to the San Joaquin River. There is possibly striper and other local fish.
THE NICEST PARK I’VE FOUND IN THE AREA.
PRETTY CLEAN AND DECENTLY KEPT UP. VERY FEW HOMELESS PEOPLE. VERY CHILL AND SAFE FEELING. LOTS OF SEATING! OPEN AND GREAT GRASS.
Eventhough I fully understand they are just trying to survive and making camps is just what they have to do, I was pleasantly surprised when I didn’t see this park filled with them. I was relieved because I wanted to relax with the person I had limited time to visit with.
I wasn’t harassed by anyone wanting or asking for something. I didn’t feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
The Smith Canal should probably be a superfund site, but the grass is nice. It’d be nicer if people picked up their dog’s droppings and didn’t leave their garbage and paraphernalia everywhere. Also, it’s kind of scary to be there at times, you know?
