  1. The Forest Park Barking Lot, at the Overlook on the east edge of Forest Park, is a good, friendly spot, a fun place for dogs to play and for their humans to chat. It’s well-maintained, always stocked with bags. Volunteers bring an enormous full water dispenser every morning, since there’s no water fountain inside. The run sits just to the east of the Forest Park hiking trails, too, if you’d like to take in a little city nature with your pup before a dog run romp.

The Barking Lot is considerably further on foot from my house than the other Forest Park dog run, K9 Korral, so I don’t go there as often as I’d like in colder weather, but I’m a member. I like to support upkeep, and membership entitles me to great benefits, including discounts at K9 Caterers, my favorite local pet supply store. The board members are very straightforward about their plans for improvements and the estimated cost, too.

The Barking Lot welcomes volunteers and suggestions, and their website is inviting and informative if you’d like to get involved.

  2. Great areas to bring your dogs. Large dog park for dogs over 30lbs and small dog park for dogs under 30lbs. Clean space. My dog loves it there.
The large dog park has some draining issues, it often has a large puddle in the center. So, the big dogs move into the small dog park.

  3. Have been here with my pup twice and it’s ok. My pup doesn’t seem to like turf and likes running around here. We have only been to the area for small dogs. A dog run with just dirt is not my ideal place to take him but it’s what he enjoys 🤷🏻‍♂️. So 1 main thing I really did not like about this place is that people come here with their young children, no pets of their own and then just let them go loose in there. It happened both times I went there.

  4. After moving from Oceanside area to Forest Hills, I realize turf is better than dirt. Watering areas get extremely muddy and the toys/tennis balls get gross. However, it’s a decent size and my dog still loves it. Walk your dog around before letting them in your car because they will tread dirt.

It has dirt ground which if your dog has the itch for digging. This is the place. It’s moderately clean and kept. But since the park is dirty only, your dog will get really dirty, especially if you take them here when it’s wet. Bathroom is near by and parking is near by. Pretty good place.

The only things the dog runs have are dirt and large rocks. Both runs get muddy very quickly when it rains, and the larger one is a mess for days after it stops raining. There are no trees (no shade) and no grass. It isn’t a bit inviting. The old run was more spacious and had some shade and grass.

Love bringing my puppy here. Grass is clean, you can walk on it without stepping in something left by another dog owner. The few people that I’ve encountered there have been friendly and the best part of all it’s super close to home.

This park is Awesome!!! For so many reasons. You can run, walk, ride, exercise, using the public equipments, walk the trails, play tennis, baseball and much more. Walk your dog, have them meet/make new friends in there own space. You can BBQ, have a party (clean up/bag your excessive trash please) permit is required if you want to hold a spot. This park is well kept and maintained. Lots of space, 🌳 and the open air to breathe.

The walking path is absolutely perfect in distance and a wide open view of the water. There are children and older folks, walking, biking, walking their dogs, jogging, fishing. There’s a wonderful “little library”to pick up something’s to read. There is an ice cream truck parked in the parkinglot often. We love it

This dog park is very clean and well kept. There are 2 sections, a bigger section of the park is for larger dogs and the smaller section is for smaller dogs. Not many people knew the smaller portion was meant for the smaller dogs and often let the dachshunds play with the Alaskan malamutes in the big dog section. Both areas have gravel and fountains for both human and dogs. Outside of the park there is a porta potty. Both sections have 2 double gate access points to prevent run away dog. We’ve been there 5 times in total and of the 2 there were dogs injured and drew blood by another dog. None of the dogs were leashed. The first time we witnessed this was a pit that almost tore a smaller mini poodles ear off, and the owner just left with the pit. The second time was a husky who bit another dog’s neck and the victim’s owner left while the aggressors owner remained at the park. We felt the park have some irresponsible owners. And decided that we will visit every now and then.

Great place to start a run. Little Bay to Fort Totten, then down Cross Island to to the Northern Blvd exit makes for a 5k run. Round trip for a 10k. Throw in two rounds on Fort Totten in this route for about a 10 mile run. There are two soccer fields and a picturesque jetty. A true gem in the neighborhood.
